You’ve done it all, you’ve seen it all… or so you think. Now in this little creative rut of yours, you’ve convinced yourself that there is nothing more you can do, nowhere to go, and no more growing to do.
Girl, wake up. Magic never runs out.
Does it ever occur to you that you are in constant motion? Ten steps forward, five steps back, and oops! a roundabout. Creativity is the same way. When you get to a point where you feel like you are taking the same steps over and over again, the creative river rooted deep in our primal body refuses to flow. Being human, the thought of leaving these stagnant waters for the unknown terrifies you. You’d rather wallow in sadness as you desperately search for ways to improve that masterpiece you once brought to life.
The truth is, the masterpiece is a perfect manifestation of your spirit then. There is no improving or changing perfection. It just is. Notice how we are speaking in the past tense? Yes, those are things of the past. Clinging on hurts, doesn’t it? So why do you keep sinking your teeth into things of the past?
It is easier to define yourself by what you have done in the past. Forgetting the doors and windows, you build high walls to protect it all. Sooner than later, you’ve caged yourself, and because you are so good at building things, the walls are mighty strong and hard to break down.
Breathe.
One brick at a time. One step at a time.
Breathe.
The best you are yet to be is waiting for you on the other side of your high and mighty wall. If only you’d give yourself permission to fuckin’ start over.
